HCM Commons: Community Store, Community Resource Center, and Community Pantry.

What an exciting day for our community. Haywood Christian Ministry (HCM) will officially celebrate the grand opening of HCM Commons—a newly combined space bringing together their Community Store, Community Resource Center, and Community Pantry under one roof on Branner Ave. The Haywood Chamber of Commerce will host a ribbon‑cutting ceremony to mark this milestone.

HCM Commons represents a powerful step forward in making essential services more accessible, more efficient, and more welcoming for the neighbors who rely on them. By uniting their thrift store, food distribution operations, and crisis support services, HCM is creating a centralized hub of hope, dignity, and practical assistance.

About Haywood Christian Ministry

Founded in 1970, Haywood Christian Ministry is one of Western North Carolina’s most impactful nonprofit organizations. Rooted in a faith‑based mission, HCM has grown from a small volunteer‑led phone ministry into a cornerstone of support for families across Haywood County.

Key Highlights of HCM’s Work:

Food Assistance:  HCM operates the largest food pantry in MANNA FoodBank’s 16‑county region, distributing more than 1.3 million pounds of food each year and providing families with 50–60 lbs of groceries per visit.

Crisis Support:  Through the Buckie and Jay Somers Crisis Center, HCM helps prevent utility disconnections and evictions, offering a lifeline during moments of financial hardship.

Community Store:  Their thrift store not only provides affordable clothing and household items but also supports HCM’s mission of feeding neighbors and reducing waste.

Community Partnerships:  HCM works closely with local churches, volunteers, and partner organizations to ensure that services are accessible to all—offering drive‑thru and non‑contact options for elderly or disabled clients.

The opening of HCM Commons marks a meaningful evolution in how Haywood Christian Ministry serves our region. This consolidated space will streamline services, expand capacity, and strengthen the sense of community that has defined HCM for more than 50 years.
