Senior Advisor for Long-Term Recover, GROW NC

Sharon Decker serves as the Senior Advisor for Long-Term Recovery for Western North Carolina in Governor Josh Stein's administration, operating within the GROW NC (Governor's Recovery Office for Western North Carolina) team.

Key details of her role and background include:

Current Responsibilities: She is leading the development of a collaborative framework and economic revitalization plan to rebuild western North Carolina. She advises the Governor on disaster recovery, focusing on infrastructure, housing, healthcare, and economic development.

Past Experience: She previously served as North Carolina's Secretary of Commerce under Governor Pat McCrory. She has also held executive roles at Duke Energy, Tanner Companies, and Tryon International

Preston Jacobsen 

Executive Director, Haywood Waterways Association

Dedicated to restoring and protecting the Pigeon River Watershed, Preston leads community‑driven efforts to keep Haywood County’s waters clean and resilient. With development rising and annual rainfall up 13% over the last century, stormwater management is becoming one of Waynesville’s biggest challenges.

Under Preston’s leadership, Haywood Waterways is strengthening local partnerships, restoring streambanks, and improving stormwater systems by integrating real climate data into planning. His work helps safeguard our rivers, support healthy ecosystems, and build a more resilient WNC.
