About

Expansive beams of 200 year-old hand-hewn logs and native Appalachian crafts underscore The Swag's efforts to capture the romance and integrity of living graciously and authentically in close proximity to nature and all its wonder. Nestled among eighteen peaks over 6,000 feet, a spectacular main lodge of log and stone is a treasure to be discovered by lovers of nature. The old split rail fence marking the boundary of Great Smoky Mountain National Park is just a few steps from the Swag Lodge entrance. Well marked hiking trails abound both in the Park and throughout the two hundred fifty acre Swag property. The Swag's hiking trails are complemented by the national park’s vast network of trails each one carefully mapped and meticulously drawn to scale for our guests. In this way, even the wilderness novice can enjoy a walk in the woods. Our fourteen romantic guest rooms offer wood-burning fire places, steam showers, balconies, patchwork quilts, heated towel racks and delightful amenities. Inspired dining is a proud tradition at the Swag! Each evening begins with a 6 p.m. guest reception on the front porch with a selection of hors d’oeuvres followed by a delicious four-course dinner. Plentiful country breakfasts and backpack lunches (or picnics) will help you enjoy your nature walk or an even more ambitious high country trek. The Swag operates seasonally from mid-April through November. We are located at an elevation of 5,000 feet, near Waynesville and thirty miles west of Asheville, North Carolina.
